Ning is a social networking site much like Facebook or MySpace. The difference is you can sign up for a NING account and create your OWN social networking site to suit your purposes. I used it last summer with a graduate technology class where I set up our own site. We used the blogging feature, and I posted resources for the students. I was working with K-12 teachers, and they enjoyed using it. Unfortunately the site was blocked at most of their schools so they couldn't use it with students this fall.
Sites can be private, or open so that others can view what is available. One can search on the NING site to locate NINGs that address specific interests to join.
Classroom 2.0 is a NING site that has over 32,000 members. It is devoted to exploring using Web 2.0 technologies in the classroom. It has a number of smaller groups within the NING site that one could join according to one's interests.
